Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight contender, Colby Covington, has returned to the New York metropolitan area in advance of his upcoming main event against Robbie Lawler, scheduled for UFC on ESPN 5 this Sat. night (Aug. 3, 2019) inside Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
And he’s got company.
“Ready to ride out to Newark,” the former interim champion wrote on social media. “Everyone knows the miserable hags of the Northeast don’t measure up to championship standards, so The People’s Champ is just gonna have to import his own talent.”
I guess Covington is struggling to drum up headlines for his “Ruthless” showdown, which may be why he’s resorting to the old pro wrestling tactic of shitting on the local sports team. True, he’s not fighting at Madison Square Garden, but let’s play along anyway.
“Over the last 20+ years, The New York Knicks have tarnished the legacy of this iconic arena,” Covington said outside Madison Square Garden. “There’s only one man who could ever make it truly GREAT again!!!”
If Covington hopes to make his presence felt in “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” he’ll need to run through Lawler this Sat. night, then convince welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, to make his Octagon return at UFC 244 this November in New York.
