Colby Covington fires back at Ali Abdelaziz in typical Colby Covington fashion.

Following Jorge Masvdial’s emphatic knockout of Darren Till at UFC London, manager Ali Abdelaziz has started hyping ‘Gamebred’ as the next welterweight title challenger.

Speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto in a recent interview, Abdelaziz said that Masvidal deserves a title shot over former interim champ Colby Covington, who Abdelaziz referred to as a ‘terrible person.’

Before Covington had a chance to reply, UFC newcomer Ben Askren got in the first dig at Abdelaziz, ridiculing Masvidal for his inactivity and lack of wins in the last two years.

Shortly after Askren’s Tweet, Okamato posted a screenshot of his conversation with Covington, who called Abdelaziz a ‘terrorist rat’ and accused newly-crowned champ Kamaru Usman of avoiding a title fight against a top contender.

”Nah but nothing would surprise me with that little terrorist rat after hearing from my people about how desperate he has looked the last couple weeks begging for anyone to fight Snoozeman except (me) the most deserving and Real World Champion!” Covington wrote to Okamoto (h/t MMA Mania). “I don’t blame him though because he knows I’m going to smash his meal ticket!”

Although Masvidal has been relatively inactive and lacking in the wins department, his brutal knockout of Till could very well catapult him into title contention. Masvidal was ranked outside the top ten heading into UFC Fight Night 147, while opponent Till was ranked in the top-three.

As for Covington, the 31-year-old is still listed in the top-three but hasn’t fought since his decision win over Rafael dos Anjos, which was almost a year ago.

Covington and Masvidal are teammates at American Top Team, so it’s highly unlikely that both men will agree to fight each other in a number one contender’s bout.
