Colby Covington claims Jorge Masvidal won’t sign the contract.
Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal are expected to fight sometime next year but, according to ‘Chaos’, ‘Gamebred’ won’t sign the contract because he doesn’t like the stylistic matchup.
Covington, a wrestler, says Masvidal needs to get his priorities straight and stop stalling negotiations.
“Last time I talked to him and Dana, they just said they gotta get Jorge on board and they gotta get him to sign,” Covington told Submission Radio in a recent interview. They said it was gonna be a tough task because he doesn’t want to fight me, plain and simple. He pretty much told them plain and simple that he doesn’t like the style matchup. You’re in the UFC fighting the best fighters in the world, you claim to be the best fighter in the world, and you don’t like the style matchup? Like, what is this, the Real Divas of Atlanta? Like, what are we doing? I thought we were in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, not the ultimate feelings championship. That’s why he’s never been the ultimate fighting champion. He’s been nothing but a broken, mediocre fighting champion.”

Masvidal is primarily a striker so, from a logical standpoint, it’s understandable why he wouldn’t want to fight one of the most dominant wrestlers in the division. There’s a lot of bad blood between these two men, however, with things turning sour at American Top Team (ATT) after Covington accused Masvidal, who he now refers to as ‘Street Judas’, of turning his back on him and selling out.
Masvidal is looking to rebound from his loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 while Covington, the former interim welterweight champion, is coming off the biggest win of his career against Tyron Woodley this past September, finishing ‘T-Wood’ via fifth-round TKO in the UFC Vegas 11 main event. With both men looking for another crack at the welterweight title expect their paths to cross in the not too distant future.
