Colby Covington thinks Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone are both washed up.
Colby Covington hasn’t had much to say about the upcoming welterweight bout between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, but ‘Chaos’ couldn’t help himself when asked about the matchup in a recent interview with Helen Yee.
Covington, who will take on Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title at UFC 245, called McGregor a ‘leprechaun’ and Cerrone ‘broke back Cowboy’, claiming that both fighters are washed up and should retire.
“You know, I look at broke back Cowboy, a guy who is way over the hill, versus the Irish little leprechaun Conor McGregor who is cashed out in his own right,” Covington said, per Jon Fuentes of The Low Kick MMA. “He couldn’t even knock an old dude off a bar stool in the bar. So it’s a matchup of jobbers and journeymen and they both should retire.”
McGregor hasn’t fought since his submission loss to undefeated lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, while Cerrone is looking to bounce back from his knockout loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC Fight Night 158.
McGregor and Cerrone will headline UFC 246 next month on Jan. 18, while ‘Chaos’ is set to take on ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in this weekend’s spectacular UFC 245 main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
