Donald Cerrone revealed that Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) had already offered him a big fight for his looming return to the Lightweight division. But according to his most-recent social media post, it could be the biggest of them all.
Money-wise, that is.
“Cowboy” hinted at a possible showdown against none other than former UFC “champ-champ” Conor McGregor, suggesting that he is simply waiting on “Notorious” to accept the fight.
Um, yes please!
The two men have a bit of history, as they briefly exchanged words during a pre-fight press conference a few years ago, though it never picked up much steam after that. Cerrone got back to his winning ways last Saturday night (Nov. 10, 2018) by submitting Mike Perry in the very first round at UFC Fight Night 139 in Denver, Colorado (see it again here).
As for McGregor, he was last seen getting beaten from pillar to post by current 155-pound champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 a few weeks ago in his first fight back after an extended hiatus (see it again here).
Of course, Conor’s return is currently in limbo as he and “The Eagle” still have to wait to see what kind of suspensions — if any — they will face for taking part in an ugly post-fight brawl shortly after their title fight.
One that hurdle is cleared, it seems UFC is ready to book a fight between two of the best strikers in the game today, which could lead to fireworks and some very intriguing pre-fight trash talk.
