Poirier vs. Tonon had been scheduled for February 21st.

Former UFC lightweight title challenger Dustin Poirier was supposed to test his grappling skills versus two-time ADCC medalist and current ONE Championship fighter Garry Tonon on February 21st. However, those plans were canceled after Tonon suffered a cut in training.

Poirier announced Tonon was injured on twitter on Sunday, writing, “Sorry to hear about your injury [Garry Tonon] get well man.” Tonon responded to that tweet with an image showing a cut over his eye.

“Thanks buddy it’s just a cut, no big deal but it’s right above the eye and if it re opens it’ll postpone my training for my fight in April and possibly re open again in the fight,” explained Tonon. “Sorry man.”

Proceeds from the match between Poirier and Tonon would have gone to Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation. Those funds would have been used to provide infant car seats to a women’s and children’s hospital in Lafayette, LA.

Poirier fought for the UFC’s lightweight title at UFC 242 last September. In that bout he lost, via third round submission, to current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Poirier, who is ranked second in the division, has since called for a rematch with former champion Conor McGregor.
