Stipe Miocic reclaimed the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight title last month after knocking out Daniel Cormier at UFC 241 (see it again here), opening the door for a possible trilogy fight between the two big men.

Soon after his defeat and in the days following, “DC” wouldn’t commit to retirement, or if he would continue to keep fighting, leaving the entire 265-pound division in limbo. But according to UFC president Dana White, Cormier will fight again. More importantly, he will fight Stipe a third time once the 265-pound champ is ready to go.

“Stipe is recovering from that fight. He’s got some bumps and bangs from that fight, we are waiting for him to heal and we are going to do a trilogy,” said Dana during a conversation with Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports.

“It’s going to depends on Stipe’s physical.”

Cormier initially defeated Miocic at UFC 226 in July of 2018, knocking him out in the very first round to become the promotion’s latest champ-champ. After he defended the strap against Derrick Lewis rather easily, “DC” agreed to give Stipe a crack to reclaim his crown.

But the real thanks should go to Brock Lesnar.

Miocic got his revenge a year later by pulling off a great come-from-behind win after losing the first three rounds to Daniel in Anaheim, Calif. After reclaiming the strap, Stipe was soon called out by Francis Ngannou, who is yearning for some revenge of his own after getting outclassed by the champ at UFC 220.

But it seems Francis will have to keep on waiting, as Cormier will get one more shot to possibly ride off into the sunset with a UFC title around his waist.
