Dana White congratulates Anthony Joshua following TKO win over Wladimir Klitschko

UFC president Dana White had a short message on Instagram about Anthony Joshua’s thrilling win over Wladimir Klitschko.

Anthony Joshua’s electrifying 11th round TKO win over Wladimir Klitschko in Saturday’s historic main event at Wembley Stadium caught the attention of UFC president Dana White. Following Joshua’s triumph over one of the Heavyweight division’s all-time greats, White wrote a short statement on his Instagram page congratulating the 27-year-old Brit on his performance.

Boxing had been DYING waiting for an exciting HW champ. Now they have it in @anthony_joshua CONGRATS champ

“Boxing had been DYING waiting for an exciting heavyweight champ,” White said. “Now they have it in Anthony Joshua CONGRATS champ.”

That “exciting heavyweight champ” line does bring back some memories of how he viewed both Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko. Once upon a time, Junior dos Santos said that he wanted to box both of them, and then was soundly beaten (again) by Cain Velasquez in their rubber match. When Dana White was asked about the possibility of JDS fighting either one of them, he had no interest in it, and then said that the Klitschko brothers were “an embarrassment to the sport of boxing.”

I think what we can all agree on is that the winner of Stipe Miocic vs. Junior dos Santos at UFC 211 should face Anthony Joshua on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor. Lest we forget that Miocic is a Golden Gloves winner, so he has some pugilistic credentials that can justify this matchup.
