Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans were oh-so-close to getting the UFC 187 pay-per-view (PPV) main event it lost when “Bones” smacked up his car in early 2015; however, just like the last time we had Jon Jones vs. Anthony Johnson on the table, it simply wasn’t meant to be.

But not from a lack of trying, once news broke that Daniel Cormier was unfit to compete.

“Obviously, the No. 1 choice would be Anthony Johnson, who is the No. 2-ranked guy in the world, and a fight that everybody wants to see,” White told ESPN’s SportsCenter (via MMA Junkie). “But Anthony Johnson just had surgery on his mouth and can’t even put a mouthpiece in for at least three weeks.”

That’s unfortunate, because Blackzilian teammate Kamaru Usman (by way of MMA Fighting) just got done telling the combat sports community how “Rumble” was ready to replace “Bones” if this legal situation kept the ex-champ incarcerated.

Bummer.

One person who isn’t complaining is Ovince Saint Preux, who can put that move to heavyweight on hold for the time being. “OSP” was ready, willing, and able to step in for “DC” so Jones can remain atop the UFC 197 PPV later this month in Las Vegas, Nevada.
