A very cryptic message from the UFC president about the featherweight contender.

If you’re wondering when Yair Rodriguez may return, Dana White’s answer is cause for concern.

The Mexican featherweight contender hasn’t competed since last year when he won his rematch vs. Jeremy Stephens. A planned summer showdown with Zabit Magomedsharipov fell through due to an ankle injury, and since then we’ve had nothing substantive on when he’ll return.

At the UFC Vegas 15 post-fight press conference, White wrapped up the media session with a cryptic answer that only raises more questions about Yair’s future.

“I don’t think he’s going to fight soon,” White said.

“We didn’t announce it,” he continued. “I don’t know why we didn’t, but yeah. I don’t know what the deal is. It’s actually none of my business what’s going on there. So when it comes out, it will come out.”

Rodriguez (13-2, 1 NC) was famously released from his UFC contract in 2018 after reportedly turning down multiple fights, but his release was short-lived and he was re-signed shortly thereafter.

Whatever this issue is seemingly doesn’t have to do with a contract squabble again, or any injury problems. Maybe you can read between the lines and speculate away as to what’s up with one of the most exciting fighters in the sport.
