Dana White on Rumble vs Teixeira: ‘I like that fight’

“It’s all about timing,” Dana White said enthusiastically about a potential matchup between Glover Teixeira and Anthony Johnson.

It didn’t take long for Dana White to respond to Glover Teixeira’s call out of Anthony Johnson in the post-fight interview at UFC on FOX 19.

“It’s all about timing,” White said on FOX Sports 1. “It’s funny, when [Teixeira] called him out, I went, ‘oh, I like that fight.’ That’s a fun fight. Glover looked awesome tonight. Rashad Evans is always a dangerous guy. Rashad has speed in his hands, he has knockout power himself, and he got caught.

“You know I don’t make fights after fights, but I gotta be honest, when [Teixeira] called [Johnson] out, I like that fight.”

Teixeira, who idolizes Mike Tyson and credited the boxing heavyweight legend in his post-fight speech, stamped his authority in the Octagon with a first round knockout of Rashad Evans in the main event. The Brazilian joins his friend Lyoto Machida, who is the only other fighter to score a KO over “Suga”.

Teixeira entered the UFC riding a 15-fight win streak and it didn’t take long for the Connecticut-based fighter to earn his shot against Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title. Teixeira held his own against “Bones”, but found his offense limited against the much taller champion. After losing via unanimous decision, the John Hackleman product was grinded down by Phil Davis at UFC 179, which marked the first time Teixeira had lost two in a row.

The 36-year-old soon catapulted back into title contention, however, with stoppages over Ovince Saint Preux – who challenges Jones for the interim championship at UFC 197Patrick Cummins, and now, Rashad Evans.

Anthony Johnson has emerged as one of the most dangerous light heavyweights on the planet since abandoning the welterweight division in 2011. “Rumble” tallied wins over the likes of Davis, Arlovski and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira before losing to Daniel Cormier for the interim 205-pound championship last year. Since then, the Blackzilian has smashed through Jimi Manuwa and Ryan Bader to restablish himself as the #2 ranked LHW in the world.
