Dana White clearly isn’t on the best of terms with Colby Covington.
Earlier this week, outspoken UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington threatened slap Dana White in the face if the UFC president attempts to wrap the welterweight belt around his waist at UFC 245.
”I can tell you who’s not wrapping it around my waist, and that will not be Dana White,” Covington told Submission Radio. “If he tries to wrap it around my waist, I’m gonna take the belt from him and slap him in the face with it.”
Covington has been on bad terms with White ever since the American Top Team (ATT) product was stripped of the interim welterweight title just three months after winning it at UFC 225 against Rafael dos Anjos. ‘Chaos’ has also accused the UFC of offering him ‘slave labor’ wages for his upcoming welterweight title bout against Kamaru Usman at UFC 245.
White, who has made many enemies over the years (the fight promoter wanted to fight Tito Ortiz in a boxing match in 2007), responded to Covington’s recent comments at the UFC on ESPN 6 post-fight press conference.
“Good luck with that,” White responded when asked about Covington threatening to slap him with a UFC belt (h/t Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “He’s a big mouthed f—king idiot.”
Perhaps White should instruct another UFC official to wrap the belt around Covington, just to be on the safe side.
UFC 245: Usman vs. Covington is scheduled to take place later this year, Dec. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
