Three Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veterans have fought their last fight.
UFC 310 went down last night (Sat., Dec. 7, 2024) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it was a bad night for former UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman, former Light Heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith, and Clay Guida.
All three of them were finished: Weidman was mercifully stopped by Eryk Anders in the second round (watch highlights), Smith was brutally stopped by Dominick Reyes (watch it), and Guida was tapped in the first round by Chase Hooper.
After the event, UFC CEO Dana White declared they should all call it quits.
“They all retire tonight, White told the media when asked what happens to them next. “They should all retire tonight.”
Weidman, 40, was begged by his boss to retire after his loss to Brad Tavares at UFC 292 last year. The former champion would win a technical decision over Bruno Silva after poking his brain 89 times earlier this year but has only won three out of his last 11 fights.
For what it’s worth, he might have retired in his home state of New York last month at UFC 309, but his fight with Anders was canceled during the broadcast.
Smith, 36, has been flirting with retirement for the last year, but his love of fighting kept him going. While he beat surging prospect Vitor Petrino in Brazil this year, Khalil Rountree brutally stopped him before that and is now on a two-fight losing skid again.
Guida, 43, is now on a three-fight losing streak, the longest of his career. The long-time fan favorite faked his retirement at UFC Kansas City in 2023, which did not go over well (and really made White mad).
