Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White has the greatest collection of fighting talent at his disposal, so there isn’t a shortage of dream matches he can make at any given moment.
But when the outspoken head honcho was asked about the biggest dream fights he wants to see most inside the Octagon, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Conor McGregor is one half of the equation.
Speaking to 8 Las Vegas, White says aside from seeing a rematch between “Notorious” and Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, he would love to see Floyd Mayweather step into the cage to take on the mouthy Irishman.
“The biggest fight if I look right now, is if Floyd came over to MMA, over to UFC and fought Conor again in a rematch, that would be huge,” he said. “Then a Conor and Khabib rematch is massive. Really the two biggest fights in the world right now are with Conor McGregor.”
No love for Jones, Lesnar … or Cormier?
Khabib manhandled Conor at UFC 229 last October, so most fans don’t think a rematch will be any different — though you won’t convince Conor of that. As far as Khabib is concerned, he has his eyes on a title unification match against the upcoming interim title fight between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier.
Meanwhile, the chances of Mayweather actually pulling a James Toney and stepping foot inside the Octagon to risk his mint combat sports record (and possible embarrassment) are slim to none.
Though if he ever does it, UFC better be ready to break open the piggy bank.
