“Conor has told me he definitely wants a fight with Masvidal. So we’ll see what happens.”
Now we know the real reason Conor McGregor is fighting Donald Cerrone at 170-pounds.
Although Joe Rogan believes McGregor is moving back up to welterweight because of the dreaded cut to 155, UFC president Dana White says the Irishman is eyeing a big money fight with top-three welterweight and newly-crowned ‘BMF’ champ Jorge Masvidal.
Speaking with 101.6-FM on Thursday White, who initially dismissed any talk of McGregor vs. Masvidal, said ‘The Notorious’ ‘definetely wants that fight’.
“Conor has told me he definitely wants a fight with Masvidal,” White said (via MMA Junkie). “So we’ll see what happens.”
Masvidal became the talk of the town after his three-round pasting of Nate Diaz at UFC 244, which saw ‘Gamebred’ cement his position as the ‘baddest motherf-cker’ in the sport. The ex-street fighter is currently one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster, so it makes sense that McGregor wants to fight him.
McGregor last fought at UFC 229, where he was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov in the fourth round of the main event at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cerrone will take place next year, January 18 in Vegas.
