After knocking out Cody Garbrandt in the co-main event of last night’s (Sat., Nov. 4, 2017) UFC 217 event in New York City (recap), T.J. Dillashaw took to the mic to callout current Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson for a fight.
And believe it or not, it’s a very big possibility, as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White revealed during the post-fight press conference that he is very interested in seeing “Viper” drop down to 125-pound to battle the dominate title holder.
And though he hasn’t spoken to “Mighty Mouse” about it, he says there is no reason he shouldn’t want the fight and be excited for it.
“I haven’t but he should be (willing to fight T.J.). He’s been crying for a long time now for a big fight, he’s got his big fight now,” said Dana. “I’m down for it because I wanted to do it before, but now it’s even better because both of them have belts.”
Indeed, White was trying to convince Johnson to defend his title against Dillashaw after Cody Garbrandt was bounced from his fight against T.J. earlier this year at UFC 213. Johnson, though, wasn’t having it, saying the next rightful contender was Ray Borg, whom he defeated at UFC 216.
Now that T.J. is back on top at 135 pounds and Johnson has pretty much wiped out the 125-pound weight class, is booking a championship bout between the two men the right call?
