Dana White: There are no guarantees Floyd Mayweather beats ‘bigger, stronger’ Conor McGregor
Perhaps rightfully so, not many are giving current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion Conor McGregor much of a chance should he get the chance to step into the boxing ring against perhaps the greatest to ever compete in the sport, Floyd Mayweather, later this year.
But in combat sports, like in life, there are no guarantees, and UFC president Dana White wants to remind you that his champion is much bigger and stronger than “Money.”
“The great thing about fights is you never know who’s going to win,” White said in a recent interview with X17 via Fox Sports. “Believe me, there’s a lot of weekends we put on fights and I think people aren’t going to win and they do. It’s the crazy thing about the fight business. I mean if it was guaranteed that Floyd was going to win this fight, why would you pay for it? There’s no guarantees,” said White.
“Conor’s 27, Floyd’s 40. Conor’s the bigger, stronger guy. He’s got knockout power,” White said. “It’s an interesting fight.”
Once saying that he had a better chance of being Tom Brady’s backup at Super Bowl 51 than a bout between Mayweather and McGregor going down, White has changed his tune drastically, saying that he doesn’t see how this fight doesn’t get made.
