Check out what happened at Dana White’s Contender Series 2, as just one contract was given out.
Dana White’s Contender Series 2 is in the books as Sean O’Malley put on a flashy performance en route to a one-punch knockout of Alfred Khashkyan in the 2nd round, to earn himself a UFC contract. Thanh Le scored a highlight reel head kick to ground and pound KO over Lazar Stojadinovic, but did not receive a contract. Daniel Spohn overcame early adversity to find a 1st round submission over Angel DeAnda in the final fight of the night, but also was denied a UFC contract.
Daniel Spohn def. Angel DeAnda by Submission (arm-triangle) at 3:10 of round 1: Light Heavyweights
DeAnda suffered a shot to the pills to open the fight, but he toughed it out and was able to continue. Both fighters went toe to toe once the action resumed, but DeAnda landed a major uppercut in the mix that dropped Spohn. DeAnda would follow up with some ground and pound, but unfortunately, it was to the back of the head, resulting in a point deduction. Spohn went beast mode to restart the fight, landing heavy ground and pound, and aggressively sinking an arm-triangle for the win.
Sean O’Malley def. Alfred Khashkyan by KO at 4:14 of round 1: Bantamweights
Both athletes got right after it to begin the fight, but Khashkyan found top position for a brief moment, before the bantamweights made it back to their feet. O’Malley started connecting big time with the hands, and mixed in the flying knees, kicks, and spinning stuff to boot; there may have been a kitchen sink thrown at some point in there somewhere as well. O’Malley sealed the deal with a lone right hand to the jaw of Khashkyan to achieve the knockout.
Watch O’Malley drop Khashkyan with a right hand, which marked the beginning of the end for Alfred:

Thanh Le def. Lazar Stojadinovic by KO at 1:35 of round 2: Featherweights
Le drew first blood with a heavy body kick, but Stojadinovic attacked with a leg lock, and used the scramble to return to his feet. Le landed a few more body kicks, with Stojadinovic winging big hooks in a flurry as the round ended. Stojadinovic pressed forward but ate a cracking body kick combo for his troubles. After plenty of kicks to the mid section of his opponent, Le landed a booming head kick that dropped Stojadinovic, and put him out cold with vicious ground and pound.
Sidney Outlaw def. Michael Cora by Unanimous Decision (29-27 x2, 29-28): Welterweights
Outlaw started the fight by emphatically slamming Cora and taking top position, and eventually transitioned to the back. Cora finished up the opening round by defend an RNC, and really had no moments at ll in that round. More domination was served up in the second stanza, as Outlaw served up a boat load of more ground control, leaving Cora ending the round defending an RNC. Outlaw racked up more ground control time, to add to his strike-less assault, but it was Cora who found top position to close out the fight.
Casey Kenney def. CJ Hamilton by Unanimous Decision (30-27 x 3): Flyweights
Both flyweights came out aggressive, battling to get the better of the strikes. Kenney began to press forward, finding success striking off of the break, from the clinch position against the fence on a few occasions. The second round saw Kenney press forward, with Hamilton looking to counter punch with his unique style. Kenney would find the back position, and work for the RNC, but Hamilton defended well, and scrambled back to his feet. Kenney would finish the round strong with a late takedown as the round came to a close. Both men were fatigued for the majority of the final round, but continued to throw to the best of their abilities. Kenney secured himself a takedown, and ultimately transitioned to the back until the sound of the final bell.
