Sometimes, a fighter can lose his or her status as the greatest of all time in the wake of a career-defining loss.
But in mixed martial arts (MMA), a combatant can also get “exposed” with a win (just ask Joe Rogan). That’s why Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is a “bum” who no longer holds a place on Mt. Olympus.
Longtime rival Daniel Cormier explains to TMZ:
“I call him a bum, he does not like that. Because he feels he’s the greatest fighter of all time and for me to call him that, it goes against everything that he believes, so I’m calling him a bum again. He is a bum. After that last fight he doesn’t deserve to be called the greatest of all time anymore. He looked terrible in his last fight.”
Jones won an uninspired decision over Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197.
Now that “Bones” has shaken off the cobwebs following his year on the sidelines, he’ll get the chance to settle his score with Cormier and prove he is, in fact, not a bum in the main event of UFC 200, which takes place on July 9, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
