Eduardo Dantas is set to defend his bantamweight title for the second time against Darrion Caldwell in October. Former featherweight champ Daniel Straus is scheduled to meet Emmanuel Sanchez on the card, too.
A bantamweight title fight between champ Eduardo Dantas and Darrion Caldwell is set to headline Bellator 184 in October, officials announced on the Bellator 181 Spike TV broadcast Friday night. MMAjunkie.com first reported the news.
Also, former featherweight titleholder Daniel Straus and Emmanuel Sanchez are set to meet in the evening’s co-main event.
Dantas won back the title at Bellator 156 last year with a dominant win over Marcos Galvao in a rematch. He avenged a 2014 loss to Joe Warren with a decisive decision win over the wrestler last December in his first title defense. Most recently, “Dudu” defeated newcomer Leandro Higo in a non-title fight after Higo missed weight.
Caldwell, who was supposed to meet Dantas earlier this year but pulled out with an injury, defeated Joe Taimanglo in his last fight last December. That followed a massive upset submission loss to “The Juggernaut” last summer. Caldwell’s biggest win is a first-round submission win over the aforementioned Warren.
Straus, after his title victory over Patricio Freire in late 2015, sat out for a year and a half due to injury. He returned to the Bellator cage earlier this year against rival “Pitbull,” and lost his title by submission.
Sanchez has won two in a row since a decision loss to former title challenger Daniel Weichel last summer. Most recently, the 26-year-old defeated Galvao by unanimous decision. Prior to that, Sanchez got past Georgi Karakhanyan by majority decision.
Pat Curran vs. John Teixeira 2 was reportedly announced by FOX Sports Brazil on Friday for Bellator 184. Bellator officials have yet to confirm the matchup.
Bellator 184 takes place live from WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla., on Oct. 6.
