The Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) strikes again.
Darren Stewart scored a technical knockout win over Francimar Barroso at the UFC Fight Night 100: “Bader vs. Nogueira 2” mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which took place on FOX Sports 1 last Saturday (Nov. 19, 2016) inside Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
But the Brazilian cried foul, claiming “The Dentist” extracted that win by way of illegal headbutt and went so far as to file an official appeal. Now, just a few days removed from the event, Stewart’s win has been changed to a no contest.
And he’s not happy about it.
“The entire situation stinks,” Stewart wrote on his official Instagram account (via MMA Weekly). “I put a lot of time and money into this fight, won the fight, and his mates at the Brazilian MMA Commission overturned the decision.”
“Fighting a Brazilian in Brazil is something that every fighter should think very strongly about,” he continued. “Had I lost and made an appeal to the Brazil commission, I doubt it would be overturned because I’m not from Brazil.”
While Stewart (7-0, 1 NC) was unhappy with the change, his former opponent — irate because referee Eduardo Herdy failed to halt the contest — believes justice was served.
Rather swiftly, I might add.
“I’m really happy,” Barroso (18-5, 1 NC) told MMA Fighting. “You have no idea how upset I was because of what that referee did. He was right in front of me and no way he missed that headbutt. I was so upset I couldn’t sleep and eat after that fight. It was so unfair because he saw everything and didn’t do anything. I’d never be over it.”
