Last week, while speaking to the Nevada state athletic commission during a hearing about licensing, Dave Herman‘s previous drug issues surfaced. He told them he was clean and suggested that he could pass a test immediately. NSAC took him up on the offer, and ordered a test to take place on the same day.
Herman passed the drug test, NSAC executive director Keith Kizer confirmed on Tuesday night. As a result, he will be licensed to fight Gabriel Gonzaga at Saturday night’s UFC 162.
The UFC heavyweight took a 10-panel urine screening that tests for illegal drugs as well as some legal, prescription drugs that are often abused.
Herman previously flunked drug tests, testing positive for marijuana in Oct. 2011 and Oct. 2012. The latter failure led to a six-month suspension and a drug treatment program.
The 28-year-old is 21-5 in his career, but is likely facing a must-win scenario at UFC 162, as he goes into the match on a three-fight losing streak.
UFC 162 takes place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and Herman’s match is set to air on the FX prelims.
