Daniel Cormier reminisces about his seemingly harrowing weight cuts to 205 pounds, as he thanked his team and demanded respect at the same time.
After beginning his career as a heavyweight, Daniel Cormier made the move down to light heavyweight in 2014. Two losses to Jon Jones aside, “DC” did achieve success at 205 pounds as champion with three title defenses to boot.
But like any fighter’s journey to the top, Cormier’s was as brutal as they come, particularly with the weight cuts. In a recent Instagram post, the former light heavyweight champion recalled a moment during those weight cutting sessions where he was surrounded by his team.
After expressing gratitude towards each and everyone, he also demanded respect for what he had accomplished while going through such harrowing experiences.
This is what making 205 always looked like for me, can you imagine doing this without a team like this behind you. A team that lifts you when you’re down. Helps you to go when you have no more.
I am lucky for my guys @beowulf.experience @crazybobcook @camacho100 @themeleeway @leandrovbteam @officialcainvelasquez @rosendo_sanchez @slikbxr @bunchthegreat @akajav They always uplift me. And to think I’d go through this every Friday and became the champion. Put some respect on my name! #weareaka
Cormier moved back to heavyweight in 2018 and won the title against Stipe Miocic. He eventually lost it in their rematch in 2019, but is hoping to run it back and reclaim the belt before he finally retires.
