Turki Alalshikh might be making friends out of enemies for the historic Noche UFC at UFC 306 event this weekend (Sat., Sept. 14, 2024).
One of UFC CEO, Dana White’s, oldest best frenemies, Oscar De La Hoya, will be at the event, putting the pair in the same building for the first time in who knows how long. In recent years, De La Hoya has been significantly more cordial when speaking about White despite still fitting in some subtle jabs. White, on the other hand, has still been off-put by the idea of a friendship or positive relationship with the boxing legend.
Ultimately, White believes De La Hoya’s presence at his next event is solely to continue his rivalry against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who will have a boxing match that same night in Las Vegas.
“I don’t know where he’s getting his tickets from,” White told Grind City Media. “He’s not getting them from me. I don’t know if he’s coming with Sheikh Turki or what his deal is, but yeah, I saw [his comments]. It’s him trying to sh*t on Canelo, and I said it a million times, I respect Canelo.
“I like Canelo, I’ve met him, he’s a nice guy,” he continued. “That night we’re talking about the history of Mexico and the history of the people and their traditions. The impact they’ve had on combat sports. Somebody said to me, ‘So you’ll be celebrating Canelo.’ Yes, we are. Canelo is a big part of the night. Julio Cesar Chavez, Salvador Sanchez, all the baddest dudes to come out of Mexico — and not talk about Canelo, too?”
De La Hoya took to Twitter last weekend (Sept. 7, 2024), expressing that the Canelo vs. Edgar Berlanga match “should be free.”
“I’m the PPV king and @Canelo vs @EdgarBerlangaJr fight will not exceed 100k homes,” De La Hoya tweeted. “Nobody is paying $90 for this snooze fest. Just speaking the facts as always [three clapping emojis].”
