Looks like them Paul bros have bitten off more than they can chew! Woodley is a risky opponent, let’s see how this plays out for Jake.

Jake Paul may have just made the biggest mistake of his short combat sports career.

The younger Paul brother (not Logan Paul, who is scheduled to fight Floyd Mayweather this Sunday) has reportedly agreed to box former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in a bout that is … quite the step up from boxing Ben Askren, if you ask us.

The news comes via Boxing Insider reporter Mike Coppinger:

So what made Jake Paul decide to take on Tyron Woodley? The original plan, as repeated many times by Jake himself, was to box Conor McGregor’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach Dillon Danis. Danis is another Askren — a serious combat sports athlete, but not extremely versed in stand up. The fight with Askren only came together because Danis’ knee was too messed up to fight.

With Danis competing under the Bellator banner and both Bellator and Paul working with Showtime, that seemed like an easy fight to put together. Now, we have Woodley stepping in, with no other logical reason than Woodley insulted one of Paul’s boxing coaches.

Watch that interaction here:

Woodley may have washed out of UFC on a four-fight losing streak, and he may be a step or two slower than when he held UFC’s Welterweight title. But, he still beat Stephen Thompson, one of the best strikers in the organization. And he’s gone toe-to-toe with Robbie Lawler and won as well.

This is probably not going to go well for Jake.

We knew when this Paul experiment began that the eventual end result would be them biting off more than they can chew. With Logan boxing Floyd Mayweather this weekend (June 6, 2021) and Jake boxing Woodley on a date to be determined, it seems this is happening sooner than we could have hoped for.
