In the final installment of Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) “Decade in Review” series, the promotion highlights some of the most electrifying moments that took place inside the Octagon in 2019.
This past year was a huge one for the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) organization, as 2019 provided fight fans with several meaningful fights and memorable highlights.
At UFC 239, Jorge Masvidal set a new UFC record by knocking out Ben Askren in just five seconds after clipping “Funky” with a flying knee. Also, Kamaru Usman dethroned Tyron Woodley from the top of the Welterweight mountain in a one-sided beatdown.
At UFC 243, Israel Adesanya fulfilled his UFC championship dream after competing only one year inside the Octagon, defeating Robert Whittaker via knockout. In August, Weili Zhang history be becoming the first Asian-born fighter to win UFC gold, knocking out JEssica Andrade in the very first round. Meanwhile, Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully defend his Lightweight title by dominating Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in Saudi Arabia
Of course, one of the biggest fights of the year took place at UFC 244, as Nate Diaz and the aforementioned Jorge Masvidal took place in the promotion’s first-ever “BMF” title fight. While entertaining for the first couple of rounds, it ultimately ended in a rather anti-climactic manner due to a doctor’s stoppage.
