Demetrious Johnson says his super-fight against T.J. Dillashaw is being discussed to co-headline UFC 226.
With still five months to go, UFC 226 is already scheduled to be a massive event that will be headlined by a heavyweight super fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. Over the weekend, it was revealed that another significant matchup could be co-headlining the card.
During his Twitch stream, reigning flyweight champion and top pound-for-pound fighter Demetrious Johnson announced that the negotiations for his fight against bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw have commenced.
“We’re in negotiations [to co-headline UFC 226],” Johnson said (via MMA Fighting). “Once my main man gets in here I’ll have him update all of the commands, that way when people come in here and ask about T.J. Dillashaw and Demetrious Johnson fighting each other, you guys know negotiations have begun. They have begun.”
For “Mighty Mouse”, his super fight with Dillashaw is “one that everyone wants”, but would rather have someone else headline the card, as he was advised by his management team to hold out for a big event.
UFC 226 will take place on July 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
