MMA: UFC 224- Dern vs Cooper

A UFC strawweight bout between Mackenzie Dern and Hannah Cifers is targeted for next month.

The fight bookings keep on coming for the UFC.

MMA Fighting reported that a strawweight bout between multi-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Mackenzie Dern and Hannah Cifers is lined up for the promotion’s May 23rd card. Dern was originally slated to face Cifers on the UFC Lincoln show on April 25th, but the coronavirus pandemic scrapped the promotion’s entire April slate.

Dern (7-1) experienced her first pro MMA defeat last October, dropping a decision to Brazil’s Amanda Ribas. This was also her first fight since giving birth to her first child, who was born in June. Her previous two UFC bouts saw her edge out Ashley Yoder by split decision, followed by a club-and-sub finish of Amanda Cooper.

Cifers (10-4) will look to bounce back from a TKO loss to Angela Hill, which took place at UFC Raleigh in January. In her four-fight UFC career, she’s recorded wins over Polyana Viana and Jodie Esquibel, but they’re sandwiched in between the Hill loss and a lopsided TKO vs. Maycee Barber.

While the UFC intends to hold its May 9th, 13th, and 16th cards at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL, there is no word yet on where the May 23rd event will take place. It is expected to be broadcast on ESPN+ and/or ESPN televison.
