Not only is he good at dodging punches, Volkan Oezdemir can dodge bullets, too.
Ranked No. 2 in the light heavyweight division, Oezdemir is expected to fight Daniel Cormier for the 205-pound title at an unnamed UFC pay-per-view (PPV) event (rumored to be UFC 220) in early 2018, thanks to this poll.
And a little bit of luck.
“No Time” was recently arrested on allegations of assault, brought to light after a barroom brawl which named Oezdemir as the aggressor. His camp released a full statement regarding the incident (see it here) and promotion president Dana White doesn’t expect it to delay a “DC” showdown.
“He’s probably still gonna fight,” White told reporters on Tuesday.
Oezdemir (15-1) is 3-0 since crossing over from the regional circuit and recently notched back-to-back knockout wins over Misha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa, the latter of which sent him to the top of the official rankings.
Cormier (19-1, 1 NC), meanwhile, was re-gifted the light heavyweight strap when Jon Jones flunked his UFC 214 drug test, taking away his knockout win and sending him to the sidelines for an undetermined amount of time.
The show must go on.
