Holly Holm suffered her third straight defeat at UFC 208 back in February, coming up short in her bid to capture the first-ever Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Featherweight title against Germaine de Randamie.
Prior to that, Holm suffered a crushing defeat to Valentina Schevchenko, four months after coughing up her Bantamweight title to Miesha Tate. Despite her recent skid, “Preacher’s Daughter” is holding her head up high, determined to climb back to the top. In fact, she recently declared on “The MMA Hour” that she is in a constant stage of readiness because there is no telling when the next title opportunity will come.
“I still feel like I’m in the mix and I still feel like I am competitive and up in the top. So, you never know when that next opportunity can come,” she said.
The three-fight losing streak is especially tough for Holm since starting her career undefeated (10-0), including becoming the first person to ever defeat Ronda Rousey by knocking her out during their title fight at UFC 193 (see it). But, she hasn’t tasted victory since, and to hear her tell it, maybe she got a bit too antsy with everything that came with being the top target in the division and didn’t focus on the daily things that made her a champion.
“I think after having the belt, it was more like, ‘Wow, I’ve only had two fights in UFC before they gave me my title fight.’ I always feel my career is on a fast track, but I was on a faster track and I felt everybody coming and felt I needed to get even better.
“Maybe I got just a little too antsy with some of that instead of taking it day by day and each day at a time,” she continued. “Maybe I was kind of worried about everything rather than what was going on at the moment. Hopefully, I learned from those mistakes and make it all worth something now.”
Holm will begin her run back to the top on Sat., June 17, 2017, in Singapore, when she faces Bethe Correria at UFC Fight Night 111 inside Singapore Indoor Stadium on the UFC Fight Pass digital network.
