Nate Diaz wasn’t that impressed by Conor McGregor’s win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.
Conor McGregor made a huge statement at UFC 246 last weekend when he defeated Donald Cerrone inside 40 seconds of action. It marked his first UFC win in three years, as well as a personal record for scoring knockout wins across three divisions.
His old rival Nate Diaz, however, didn’t think too highly of the victory, and the 34-year-old UFC veteran went on to explain why during a post-Bellator 238 interview with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi.
“‘Cowboy’ doesn’t care about winning and losing, so [McGregor] didn’t have a very hard fight on his hands,” Diaz said, who’s had experience facing both fighters.
Diaz last fought at UFC 244 in November against Jorge Masvidal, a fight he wanted for himself. He ended up losing via third round TKO due to a doctor stoppage, prompting him to hint at retirement once again.
But when asked about his next plans, Diaz responded without giving any specifics.
“I want to watch what happens in the next few months,” he said, adding he will be back in the cage “when the time is right.”
A third fight with McGregor is still one of the best options being looked at for Diaz. Respected veteran coach Firas Zahabi, for one, wants it to happen for the inaugural 165-pound title.
