Lightweight contender Carlos Diego Ferreira is hoping to be Charles Oliveira’s replacement against Beneil Dariush.
Lightweight contender Carlos Diego Ferreira wants a chance to rematch the first man to ever defeat him in the cage. After Charles Oliveira was forced out of his fight against Beneil Dariush due to personal problems, Ferreira took to Instagram to ask the UFC for a chance to step in on short notice and get the spot left by ‘Do Bronx”.
Currently on a six-fight winning streak, Carlos Diego Ferreira (17-2) tapped out former champion Anthony Pettis in his last outing, back in January, via rear-naked choke. The 35-year-old also holds notable wins over Mairbek Taisumov, Rustam Khabilov and Olivier Aubin-Mercier, among others.
His last defeat came back in April 2015, when he was knocked out by Dustin Poirier. Before that, Ferreira suffered his first ever mixed martial arts loss by the very hands of Beneil Dariush, a unanimous decision defeat in October 2014.
While no official replacement has been named, Beneil Dariush is still expected to perform at UFC on ESPN 16, on October 3rd, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The card is scheduled to be headlined by a women’s bantamweight bout between former champion Holly Holm and contender Irene Aldana. A bout between former featherweight champion Germeaine de Randamie and Julianna Pena is also set for the event.
