Oddsmaker claims Shana Dobson’s wn over Mariya Agapova was the second biggest MMA upset ever.

At this weekend’s UFC Vegas 7: Munhoz vs. Edgar event Shana Dobson earned Performance of the Night honours by finishing Mariya Agapova with a second round TKO. Many have called Dobson’s win an upset, but few could have known just how high the odds were stacked against the 31-year-old.

On twitter Nick Kalikas of MMAOddsBreaker announced that Dobson’s win over Agapova was the “biggest upset in UFC history!” (ht Adam Martin bjpenn.com).

Kalikas, a professional odds maker for Vegas based sportsbook Circa Sports, backed up his claim by revealing that odds on Dobson winning closed at +1150, with Agapova favoured with odds of -1900.

According to MMAOddsBreaker the previously held record for biggest UFC upset belonged to former UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw when he knocked out Renan Barao to earn his title at UFC 173 in 2014. For that fight the odds on Dillashaw winning were +765.

Dobson’s win ranks as the second highest upset in MMA history. Number one spot on that list belongs to Ramaeu Thierry Sokoudjou, from when he beat Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at Pride 33 in 2007. Sokoudjou was a +1350 underdog for that fight.

When she beat Agapoa, Dobson moved her record to 4-4. The win snapped a three fight losing streak for the American, who suffered a KO loss to Priscila Cachoeira last time out at UFC Fight Night: Felder vs. Hooker in February.

The heavily favoured Agapova was fighting in only her second UFC bout. She made her promotional debut at UFC on ESPN: Eye vs. Calvillo in June, beating Hannah Cifers with a rear naked choke.

Prior to joining the UFC the Kazakh fighter reeled off two wins in Invicta FC. In 2019 she was an unsuccessful competitor on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.
