Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz thinks Daniel Cormier doesn’t prepare correctly when he calls UFC fight cards.
Cruz is slated to face Pedro Munhoz in a very important bantamweight matchup at UFC 269, but he’s also become one of the most prominent commentators in the UFC. In addition to being a broadcast analyst, he also helps with ESPN programming and fight breakdowns for the network.
Cruz has never been one to give his full, honest opinions about his fighting and broadcast colleagues. For Cruz, friendship doesn’t mean that you’re the exception to criticism.
That includes Cormier, who will be on the call with Joe Rogan and Jon Anik this weekend. During his UFC 269 pre-fight press conference, Cruz took shots at Cormier’s commentary and admitted that he tries to tune it out.
“When it comes to DC, I usually mute it,” Cruz said. “I love DC, he’s my friend, but to me, from my experience, he doesn’t do the homework. He wants to get in and out, get the job done, make his money. And I think he cares about us, but it’s just different. He doesn’t do the preparation from my experience. He might now. I’m hoping he watches some film this time on my fight so he knows what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. But I’m not gonna hold my breath on that, that’s for sure.”

Cruz later admitted that while he isn’t perfect, he and Bisping put in the work necessary to bring their full perspective to the table.
It’ll be interesting to hear what Cormier has to say in response to Cruz. The two of them seem to have a cordial relationship, but surely Cormier can’t be too pleased to hear such takes.
