Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos has been shipped off to “Sin City” to serve as backup for the UFC 264 pay-per-view (PPV) main event between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier this Sat. night (July 10) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That’s according to a report from Combate.
Dos Anjos, 36, is currently cutting weight for the lightweight limit of 155 pounds and would only be needed in case of injury or illness to either McGregor or Poirier. Then again, it sounds like “Notorious” is willing to fight him anyway, sort of like they do in Miami.
“Put Dos Anjos in at the same time,” McGregor wrote on Twitter.
An injury to Dos Anjos back in early 2016 canceled his title fight against McGregor and sent the power-punching Irishman into a hastily-assembled “red-panty night” opposite Nate Diaz. That led to McGregor’s first loss inside the UFC and changed the course of lightweight history.
Poirier has yet to comment.
