Dustin Poirier finally has his wish. The surging lightweight will meet Max Holloway for the interim title in the main event of April’s UFC 236. But that doesn’t mean it’s not time Poirier flames Nate Diaz in their ongoing rivalry.

The surging ‘Diamond’ was set to face the controversial fan favorite at last November’s UFC 230 from New York City. However, a hip injury to Poirier forced him to withdraw. Diaz refused to accept another fight on the card as a result. Injury aside, there were rumblings of Diaz being his usual impossible-to-negotiate-with self prior to his anticipated return.

If you listen to him, however, it was the opposite that was true. Diaz recently posted some footage on his Instagram account of him looking in shape for the fight before his opponent ‘b****ed up.’ Check it out here:

“Diamond” Fires Back

Poirier responded to Diaz’ insinuation during an appearance on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” (via ESPN MMA) this week. In it, Poirier accused Diaz of playing the runaround game yet again. It got so bad that Diaz even turned down the main event spot, Poirier said.

Several potential replacement opponents were even offered to ‘The Diamond’ when it looked like Diaz would not fight:

“Be real. Be real, man. Tell the truth. Tell them how you were playing games, how you over-negotiated, how you didn’t take the main event spot when the UFC offered it to us.

“They were offering me different opponents, maybe a backup cause they knew Nate was out of the fight. So much stuff happened. Look, maybe me and Nate’ll cross paths one day; I don’t know. But just be real, dude. You preach all this stuff, practice what you preach, man. Be real, tell the truth.

“I had a hip injury that I was training through and then when he kept playing around, playing games and then we started talking about replacement opponents and stuff, then we were like, ‘Okay, let’s go get this hip fixed, you know?’”
