With the disappointment of his May loss behind him, Dustin Poirier is moving on.
The Louisiana-born featherweight, who fell in a riveting, 2012 Fight of the Year candidate to Chan Sung Jung, has a new camp and a new fight.
Poirier recently joined up with the vaunted Florida-based camp American Top Team, and that’s where he’ll prepare for his next bout, scheduled against former Ultimate Fighter winner Jonathan Brookins.
The fight, which was verbally agreed to by both sides, according the UFC, will take place on the TUF 16 Finale on Dec. 15 in Las Vegas.
Poirier had stretched his win streak to five straight and had been considered one of the 145-pound division’s top contenders until Jung caught him with a fight-ending D’arce during their May 15 bout. The loss dropped his record to 12-2.
His opponent Brookins (13-5) will also be looking to rebound from a loss, coming off a submission defeat at the hands of Charles Oliveira in June.
On the same event, the UFC also added a flyweight match between Tim Elliott and Jared Papazian.
Both men will be searching for their first win in the promotion.
Elliott (8-3-1) went the distance but ultimately lost in a decision to current No. 1 contender John Dodson while Papazian (14-8, 1 no contest) has dropped two in the octagon, most recently tapping to a Dustin Pague rear naked choke.
The TUF 16 finale features a heavyweight main event pitting coaches Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson head to head.
