Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight champion Henry Cejudo, who also captured gold at 135 pounds, wants to become the first mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter to simultaneously hold three consecutive titles inside the Octagon.
That’s why “Triple C” is looking to set up a champion vs. champion “super fight” against Frankie Edgar, who has the chance to upset the featherweight apple cart against Max Holloway in the UFC 240 main event this weekend in Edmonton.
Doesn’t sound like Edgar has “The Answer” Cejudo is looking for.
“That dude says a lot of shit. Most of it’s garbage so you’ve got to kind of take it with a grain of salt,” Edgar told MMA Fighting. “Who knows what he’s talking. My focus is nowhere near a 35-pounder right now. I’m not looking to fight the smaller guy. I’m looking to fight the best guy and that’s Max right now.”
I would imagine Edgar is miffed that Cejudo’s callout did not include Holloway, suggesting that “Blessed” was too tall or too dynamic to conquer, thus making “The Answer” a more manageable opponent, which is a very nice way of calling it an “easier fight.”
No question a Cejudo vs. Edgar fight would be fun, but there is no way the promotion is going to pass on the opportunity to have the winner of Holloway vs. Edgar collide with lane-staying Alexander Volkanovski at the UFC 243 pay-per-view (PPV) this October in Melbourne.
