Sijara Eubanks, regardless of whether or not she “deserved” the UFC 230 main event against Valentina Shevchenko, has a right to be angry. After all, “Sarj” signed a contract to compete at a specific date against a specific opponent and undoubtedly rearranged her life to accommodate it.
Aside from that, who wouldn’t be upset about losing the chance to make history?
But the promotion had second thoughts about leaving the Eubanks-Shevchenko flyweight title fight atop UFC 230. Not only did it torpedo “Bullet’s” existing championship showdown opposite Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231, it had fans crying foul over the quality of the fight card.
So, as you might expect, Eubanks went off the rails when it was announced that Daniel Cormier vs. Derrick Lewis had been booked to main event the “Empire State” attraction on Nov. 3, sending Shevchenko back to Toronto and leaving “Sarj” sitting high and dry.
“Buncha fuckin cowards!! You pull me from this thing and you’ll regret it!” Eubanks wrote in a since-deleted tweet to UFC president Dana White, as well as matchmaker Mick Maynard.
It didn’t stop there.
“This is my life you’re playing with,” she wrote. “Put me under card. Put me co main. I don’t care. But put me in for the Flyweight title shot! I’VE EARNED MY SHOT. THIS IS MY TIME. Quit running this thing like a circus.”
I swear I’ve heard the “circus” complaint before.
No word yet on what will become of Eubanks as the upcoming fight cards get sorted out, but this bout was previously on the table and of course, there is always that Nicco Montano showdown we never got (because of this).
Until then, don’t expect this tweet to be a factor.
