A day after Urijah Faber revealed he would be mounting his mixed marital arts (MMA) comeback, his opponent has been revealed. According to multiple outlets, “The California Kid” will face Ricky Simon at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 155 event slated to go down inside Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California on July 13, 2019.
After defeating Brad Pickett back in 2016, Faber decided to retire from combat sports and has since gotten married and welcomed his first child into the world. After expanding his gyms and producing a movie, Faber is anxious to scratch the itch to compete inside the Octagon.
To hear Urijah tell it, his training regimen hasn’t changed all that much since he last competed, so ring rust shouldn’t be much of a factor.
Simon (15-1, 3-0 UFC), though, is no pushover as he is currently riding an eight fight win streak, including winning his first three fights inside the Octagon. Prior to making his UFC debut in 2018, Simon was the reigning Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) Bantamweight champion.
While UFC has yet to confirm a headlining bout for the ESPN+ event, several matchups have already been confirmed, including Cynthia Calvillo vs Livia Renata Souza, Darren Elkins vs Ryan Hall as well as Sara McMann vs Nicco Montano.
The promotion was interested in having former 135-pound champion Cody Garbrandt return at this event, but his management team recently stated that “No Love” needed more time and would return later this year.
