Urijah Faber reveals rejecting a supposed offer to fight at the UFC’s second Jacksonville show this Saturday.
Many were caught off guard when Urijah Faber stepped onto the scale on Friday ahead of the UFC’s second Jacksonville show. “The California Kid” weighed in at 153.5 pounds, 18 pounds heavier than his fighting weight.
A few hours later, the veteran competitor provided an explanation on why he was part of the weigh-ins. Apparently, he was scheduled to be part of the card, along with protégés Song Yadong and Darren Elkins.
According to Faber’s latest Instagram post:
Putting in the A team. @yadongsong ready to shine! “The Damage” @darrenelkinsmma ready for the Grind! Had about 12 hours to get my juices flowing, visualization self belief on point (that was about it )!
Hard to turn down a good time, a tough opponent and a sack of cash …especially on my birthday!
So glad I’m sitting the bench, everyone’s in for a treat Saturday. I’m Inspired by @ufc @danawhite and crew’s tenacity and never give up attitude. This organization knows how to fight!
After “retiring” in 2016, the 41-year-old Faber made a comeback in July 2019 and stopped Ricky Simon via TKO in the first round. He wasn’t so lucky in his second return fight last December at UFC 245 against Petr Yan, where he was knocked out in the third round.
