A UFC heavyweight match between Fabricio Werdum and Alexey Oleynik will take place in Russia, on September 15.
A pair of veteran heavyweight grapplers will be on the UFC’s first ever trip to Russia, as MMA Fighting reported Fabricio Werdum takes on Alexey Oleynik at UFC Fight Night 136, in the country’s capital of Moscow.
Former champion Fabricio Werdum (23-8-1) will try to rebound from a KO loss to Alexander Volkon in March. Before that, the 40-year-old was on a two-fight winning streak, with wins over the likes of Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura. This will be Werdum’s third consecutive five-round fight.
Alexey Oleynik (56-11-1) recently finished Junior Albini with his signature Ezekiel choke, on May 12, in his last outing. Prior to the win, the ‘Boa Constrictor’ suffered a TKO loss to Curtis Blaydes in a defeat that snapped a two-fight winning streak with submission victories over the likes of Travis Browne and Viktor Pesta.
With a combined sum of 55 submission wins between them, Fabricio Werdum and Alexey Oleynik are scheduled to meet in the main event of UFC Moscow. The card will take place at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday, September 15th. There’s no word on yet on whether or not the card will air on FS1 or UFC Fight Pass.
