Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov face off today (Sat., Feb. 6, 2021) in a main event Heavyweight clash from UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada at UFC Vegas 18. Overeem has been there and done that in his two decade plus career, winning illustrious titles around the world. However, the UFC strap has thus far eluded him, and the Heavyweight craftsman is looking to change that before walking off into the sunset of retirement. On the other side of the equation, Volkov is in the prime of his career and hungry for high-profile fights, as “Drago” is also in pursuit of gold.

Round One
Volkov lands a hard low kick and flurries right away. “Drago” is stalking his prey and picking his shots. Overeem swings a wide overhand. Volkov scores a counter right as Overeem presses forward with a punch or clinch attempt. Overeem scores with a clean uppercut and body kick — his best strikes yet. A jab from Volkov drops him moments later! Overeem rushes back to his feet, but the Russian is stalking him along the fence. The veteran seems to recover, but he takes another flurry along the fence. Volkov again lands big with a combination near the fence before the bell.
Round Two
Volkov snaps off a couple jabs to deny Overeem’s attempts to clinch. His straight punches simply don’t miss Overeem’s chin. Now Overeem is stalking, but he isn’t throwing much. A left hook wobbles “The Demolition Man,” but again he hangs tough, rope-a-doping along the cage. Overeem’s single leg takedown is stuffed. Another left hook sees Overeem faceplant, and the referee rushes in to save him.
Result: Alexander Volkov defeats Alistair Overeem via second-round knockout
