Bellator 229Koreshkov vs. Larkin” took place October 4, 2019 at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California. Within the last month Bellator MMA aired a free replay of the entire event online, which includes the fight we’re about to discuss today.

“The Maori Kid” Jay-Jay Wilson hails from Auckland, New Zealand. That may keep him from getting to the United States for another fight any time soon, but last fall he was already a perfect 3-0 with two wins in Bellator when he stepped up to face Jorge Juarez. At 4-1 he was not going to be a pushover for the young prospect to simply roll through on the prelims.

Wilson did have a few “sizable” advantages going into the fight though, standing 5’11” to his opponent’s 5’6”, and having a 74” reach to his opponent’s 66.5” wingspan. Is that even fair? If they’re in the same weight class and it’s regulated by the CSAC then it must be. Jason Herzog called for the bell and the bout got underway. 45 seconds later a takedown put Juarez on his back. 48 seconds later a rear naked choke was the end of Juarez’ night.

When the global pandemic settles down, let’s hope “The Maori Kid” is on his way to the United States looking to keep his winning streak alive.
