Tony Ferguson calls out Kevin Lee for his recent comments on the Joe Rogan podcast.
Kevin Lee was the latest fighter to feature as a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show, and ‘The Motown Phenom’ gave his thoughts on Tony Ferguson’s last minute withdrawal from UFC 223 earlier this month.
Ferguson, 34, was expected to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed lightweight title in the main event but unfortunately tripped over a wire during a pre-fight media obligation and was forced to pull out.
The former interim lightweight champion suffered a torn ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for the rest of the year.
Lee, who broke into the top-5 lightweight rankings after his fifth-round TKO of Edson Barboza this past weekend at UFC Atlantic City, doesn’t think Ferguson will be able to fully recover from injury – not at 34-years-old.
“I feel bad for the guy, I really do. I don’t think he’ll ever be the same coming off that one,” Lee told Rogan on Monday.
“That’s huge, especially at 34 (years old), to try and come back off that. And it kind of sucks for me, too, because I think I fought the best Tony Ferguson that you’re gonna see, period, really.”
Ferguson, who beat Lee to win the interim strap back at UFC 216 in October 2017, took offense to Lee’s comments and sent out a tweet calling the 25-year-old talent ‘young and dumb’.
@MoTownPhenom U Can Only Hope & Wish I Won’t Ever Be The Same. Make No Mistake, I Learn From Everything. Keep Practicing Running Your Mouth. That For Sure Gets You Mat Victories. Young & Dumb. Without Out Adversity There Is No Progress. -Champ #CantKeepABrownManDown

Lee who, prior to his win over Barboza was choked out by Ferguson at UFC 216, was respectful towards Ferguson on the JRE MMA show and has previously referred to him as the real champion. The Las-Vegas based talent has yet to reply to Ferguson but expect to see a back-and-forth between the two fighters in the coming days.
Ferguson, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under renowned coach Eddie Bravo, also got into it with Al Iaquinta after ‘Raging Al’ called him a ‘weirdo’ on Twitter. Ferguson also recently underwent surgery for his injured knee and posted some graphic post-op photos on Instagram.
