Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, is more interested in boxing Floyd Mayweather Jr. than defending his 155-pound strap, because a potential “Money” fight will do much more for his legacy.
You know what they say about imitation and flattery.
And while “The Eagle” may be playing by his own rules, former interim champion, Tony Ferguson, is not trying to hear about Mayweather or anyone else, now that “El Cucuy” cemented his place atop the 155-pound leaderboard by disposing of Anthony Pettis.
Unfortunately for Ferguson, along with the rest of the lightweight division, the lightweight belt might be put on ice when Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) meets next month in Las Vegas, where it’s expected to hand down a suspension for Nurmagomedov.
“The Eagle” started the UFC 229 post-fight brawl last month in “Sin City,” one that also ensnared ex-champion Conor McGregor, along with goon-of-the-moment, Dillon Danis. I would be shocked if Ferguson opted to stay busy in the interim, as he’s certainly done enough to warrant the next 155-pound title shot.
We shall see.
