After spending the last six months on the sidelines with a bum knee and no more interim lightweight title, Tony Ferguson has busted back onto the UFC landscape with a juicy fight against Anthony Pettis at UFC 229 on October 6th. That’s UFC 229, the same card as Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov. What better way to set yourself up to fight the winner? And, dare we say, what better position to be in should someone suffer a tiramisu related weight disaster that takes them off the card?

But let’s not put that evil on Khabib. For now let’s pretend all the big fights for UFC 229 are going to go ahead without a hitch, and Tony will indeed fight Anthony Pettis on the undercard in Las Vegas. It’s a great fight, and it turns out there’s even some heat between Ferguson and Pettis. Tony explained the situation in a recent Instagram post, which we’ve helpfully translated from “El Cucuy” to english.

”’Technical fall,’” Ferguson wrote. “Anthony Pettis, your team tried to dog my squad in the stands at UFC 181 and my coach at the time told me ‘Don’t worry about him, you can’t big league a big leaguer.’ I told you I’d see you soon, kid. Now you’re gonna have to answer to me, toe to toe, vato. I’ll accept a public apology before the fight if you want to squash it and fight like gentlemen.”

”Either way I’m bringing the pain,” he finished. “So I’ll see you soon, hombre. Shhhh, be good pretty boy. You’re lucky it’s not UFC 229.”

Ferguson included a photo with his interim belt, which the UFC unceremoniously deemed invalid after Khabib Nurmagomedov won the full belt at UFC 223. We have a feeling Tony’s belt isn’t going anywhere. Vegas odds on him showing up on fight week with it? We haven’t seen any but we’d assume it’s heavily favored.
