The former UFC interim lightweight champ is ready to return after a freak knee injury took everything he worked for.
2018 has not been a great year for Tony Ferguson. A week before he was set to face Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 for the lightweight title, he tore his fibular collateral ligament and was forced off the card. Then the UFC didn’t just replace him for the event. They also dissapeared his interim belt, a process that seems to be happening regularly now.
But the terrible times from this year may finally be over as Ferguson reports he’s cleared to fight once again. Here he is on Instagram being his typical strange T-Ferg self:
In normal-speak, that reads “Cleared! Made that recovery my bitch, four months and a day. Thanks everyone that believed in me, keep that s**t up! Time for some chaos and reclaiming whats mine – The Champ.”
It may be a bit difficult for Ferguson to ‘reclaim what’s his’ given that the lightweight title is currently being vied for by Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. In the wings, Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz may be setting up for dibs on next — well, depending on whether Nate is still interested in fighting.
Could Ferguson be ready for UFC 230 on November 3rd? Seems like a perfect way to slide right back into contention to us!
