Twitter reply of the day: “Ali switching accounts like he switches passports.”
Sounds like Kamaru Usman is angling for a welterweight title fight.
That may explain why “The Nigerian Nightmare” is ratcheting up his trash talk against newly-crowned division titleholder Belal Muhammad, who captured the 170-pound strap atop the UFC 304 pay-per-view (PPV) card last month in Manchester.
“Alright, enough of the nice guy,” Usman wrote on Twitter. “You were never chasing me bum. You were barely in [the UFC] rankings when I dominated the division. FYI, I have a win over Leon [Edwards] son.”
Muhammad was quick to respond.
“Dominated the division? You beat [Jorge] Masvidal twice and went to a cardio kickboxing war with Colby [Covington] twice (Colby sucks),” Muhammad said. “You were protected by UFC. Now you can barely walk. Your podcast sucks and your part in Black Panther [movie] sucked.”
Usman lost his title against Edwards at UFC 278.
Muhammad is expected to make his first title defense at the end of the year, or perhaps early 2025. Aside from Usman, there has been talk of pairing “Remember the Name” against undefeated welterweight contender Shavkat Rakhmonov.
Usman has not competed since a majority decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev.
