A throwback to the peak years of “The Answer.”
Beneath the two title fights and the banger of a title eliminator at UFC 268 this weekend is the return of the one and only Frankie Edgar. “The Answer” will try to bounce back from his soul-shaking flying knee KO loss to Cory Sandhagen when he takes on Marlon Vera to open up the main card.
It’s not exactly a great time to be a Frankie Edgar fan these days. He may still be competitive enough for a 40-year-old, but Father Time is catching up quickly.
So I thought it’d be fitting to go back to a time when Edgar was at his peak. I’m specifically rewinding to his third fight with Gray Maynard at UFC 136 a full decade ago.
I’ve always been one of the perpetually smaller guys in the gym, and 155-pound Frankie Edgar was always a joy to watch. He went in there without cutting weight, took on bigger opponents, and handily beat a lot of them. But this particular fight was what solidified his champion status for me.
I won’t even break this down and just let you all re-savor all of the action. After all these years, it still brings me to the edge of my seat.
